THE other day I received a notification on my banking app of what I thought was an unexpected payment that had gone off on my account.

Panic and paranoia set in fast.

Was I being scammed? Had my card been cloned somewhere? Was this just the beginning of a snowball effect of deductions to come

After tracing my recent purchase activities, I realised it was one of my scheduled payments that had come off a bit later than the rest. I hadn’t become a victim of banking fraud, phew! Unfortunately, that’s not the case for many.

On the daily, we swipe, tap, scan – all actions we perform when making card, mobile or online payments, and all very convenient. But how sure can we really be that we’re safeguarded against dodgy transactions and scams? If my device or card somehow ended up in unwanted hands, how can I ensure they don’t have easy access to
