Try WhatsApp’s new text-formatting options

WhatsApp has added new options for formatting your messages, so you can make long blocks of text easier to read. These complement the existing options for bold, italics and strikethrough, and are similarly easy to miss unless you know what to type.

The most useful addition is the ability to create bullet-pointed lists in your WhatsApp chats. Just enter a hyphen - and press Space and it will turn into a bullet point (see screenshot below) so you can start your list. Press Enter to move on to the next point in the list, or Delete to erase the bullet point and return to standard typing.

Alternatively, to create a numbered list, enter a number, followed by a full stop and a space, quotes using the chevron symbol > and inline code (typewriter font) by enclosing text in straight quote marks 'like this'.
