On 13 July 2023, student nurse Carlee Russell, 25, finished a shift at Woodhouse Spa in Birmingham, Alabama.
She stopped for some snacks at a supermarket, got a takeaway.
Then, as she drove to her home in the neighbouring city, Hoover, she made an alarming call to police.
‘Hi, I'm on Interstate-459, and there is a kid walking by themselves… They look like a toddler, maybe 3 or 4…’ she said.
