Digital payments can’t replace a birthday tenner

In response to Issue 681’s ‘Question of the Fortnight’ (pictured right), one thing that digital payments will never replace is the thrill of opening a birthday card and seeing £10 flutter out. Watching my grandchildren’s eyes light up when this happens is still a highlight of my year. Of course, when I was growing up it used to be £1, and only then on milestone birthdays! My grandchildren understand a lot about technology, but thankfully they’ve yet to tell me that they only accept digital payments. I’m waiting for that fateful birthday when they say, “Can you transfer it into my PayPal account, Grandma?”.

Peter Howell is spot on when he says people using ‘cracked’ Amazon Fire Sticks to avoid paying for TV don’t treat it as a
