Normally consisting of about 27 units, which experience has shown is about as many as most clubs can accommodate, this ‘family’ has left a swathe of collateral damage and smiles throughout the realm.
For 2024, to celebrate 10 years of fun, it was decided to expand the thinking and cross the Cook Strait ditch. Karen and Garth Taylor (Horsham Downs) completed a late-2023 reconnoitre and subsequently arranged a veritable Paris–Dakar rally for geriatrics covering 15 courses over 25 days, starting on February 25 at Rarangi golf course and ending just down the road at Kaikōura golf course on March 21. In between golfing the trip would involve 1500km of travel, following a route resembling a snakes and ladders game. It was a superbly organised and controlled event, for which Karen and Garth were rewarded magazine, RV Supplies, the Stewart family, and Summerset also contributed awesome prizes and vouchers. Many thanks to them all.
