PUNGENT PLANT PREVENTS PICNICS
A popular tourist area in Arizona was recently closed due to a pungent plant called ‘stinknet’. Casa Grande Ruins National Monument officials were forced to turn away park visitors with the noxious weed posing potential health threats. The plant may have pretty yellow flowers on thin green stems, however, allegedly smells like turpentine or nail polish remover. Also known as globe chamomile, Stinknet can grow over 60 centimetres tall and induce breathing issues and severe skin rashes in some people. Officials at the popular picnic destination are hoping the closure will prevent the odourous flowering weed from growing further. Arizona Native Plant Society members
