SHUDDERING F-BODY
Q: I enjoy your column each month and sometimes read it twice to make sure that I learn everything I can. I own a 1973 Pontiac Formula 455 with 150,000 miles on the odometer. It has the original block, and the engine was rebuilt with a Ram Air II cam and is currently fed through Holley Sniper fuel injection. The car originally came with a GM TH400 automatic transmission but about 15 years ago I replaced it with a Tremec five-speed when the automatic transmission failed. I have restored this car and added a RideTech StreetGrip suspension, aluminum 17-inch honeycomb wheels, 3.42 gears, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, plus new paint, Recaro seats, and more.
My problem is that when I let out the clutch in first gear, the car shudders, sometimes violently. The clutch chatter started before the modifications to the suspension. When the car is cold, it doesn’t seem to be as
