WHEN I WAS studying car design at the Royal College of Art in the mid Seventies, a group of us went to a meeting at the Prescott Hill Climb in Gloucestershire. A new experience to me, the most indelible impression left on me from that day was a D-Type body-in-white (in other words, an unpainted shell) which for some reason had been under a tree, away from the main events.
