“I once had a professor say that to create art that touches people, you need to reach inside to your inner trauma. I think the opposite is also true; you can reach people by consistently being grateful and open to the beautiful and funny things around you.

Tell us about your journey into fabric design…

I grew up around fabric, quite literally! My mum owned a fabric store and my nanna was a very talented quilter. Despite this, I didn’t take an interest in sewing until I had my first baby boy in 2010. Children’s clothing has come a long way since those days – back then, girls’ clothing took up the majority of the floor space and boys’ clothing featured aliens and dinosaurs, or foreign motifs like foxes and bears.

I was determined to make some fun clothes for my baby that were less stereotypical –
