South Africans abroad make their mark

58 000 voters registered

PATRIOTIC South Africans living abroad flocked to the country’s missions, embassies and consulates worldwide to cast their votes from Friday to Sunday.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said special voting abroad went off smoothly across nine countries. 58 000 voters had registered abroad.

South Africans living abroad can only vote in the national elections.

Kate Mapela, spokesperson for the IEC, said they were pleased that South Africans abroad heeded the call to cast their votes.
