London’s annual Pride Parade is bounding back on to the capital’s streets on June 29, and with it comes an entire month of unmissable events to celebrate all things LGBTQ+.
The first Pride event took place in New York in June 1970 as a commemoration of the devastating Stonewall Riots that occurred the previous year. Since then, June has become a milestone for the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters to pay tribute to the progress that has been made, and to reflect on what work there is still to be done.
Current talks in Westminster debating the need to educate children on gender identity is worryingly reminiscent of Margaret Thatcher’s infamous Section 28 policy and it is likely to be a talking point during Pride month.
