This well-produced volume charts the 50-year history and development of Caledonian MacBrayne, with author Colin Smith covering all the main events. The text is accompanied by outstanding colour images of the ships, with the fine scenery of the west coast of Scotland providing the perfect backdrop for these iconic vessels.

The book opens with a foreword by Caledonian MacBrayne’sleft the company. The first 80 pages cover the history of the company from 1973. The second half of the book details the history of the ships, starting with Queen Mary II, Waverley and Maid of the Loch, and ending with Carvoria, Loch Frisa and Alfred, while the ships under construction, notably Glen Sannox and Isle of Islay, also get a mention.
