PADDLING AROUND DRESDEN BY STEAM

n September last year, a PTG Tour to Germany featured a cruise on one of Dresden’s eight operational paddle steamers from Bad Schandau to Dresden, reports . The ship rostered for this run, built in 1886. Although modernised after the collapse of the DDR to include a modern automatic light-oil (diesel) fired boiler and hydraulic steering, the is still powered by her original twin-cylinder compound oscillating engine which was provided by her builder when new.
