TRAVEL
ON ARRIVAL at Johannesburg we were collected at the airport and taken to the Sunrock Guest House. That only took about 15 mins. Our room was clean and tidy, although music from the nearby bar went on until midnight, which was a bit annoying.
As soon as it grew light I could hear birds calling and found this too tempting to stay in bed, so I went for a wander. The guest house has some small gardens and a couple of bird feeders. The most numerous species was the red-eyed dove, but we also saw quite a number of other species, including zosterops, red-headed finches, weavers, mousebirds, barbets and bulbuls. A small group of feral ring-necked parakeets flew over – and all before breakfast.
We thenshop, which had been closed the previous evening, and bought the pay-as-you-go SIM card for my mobile phone. We were on the road before 9.30am and that included a trip to the fuel station to fill up.
