As the cost of living crisis persists, millions continue to struggle to pay their bills, afford the essentials or even keep a roof over their heads.
Inflation took a welcome downturn to 2.3 per cent in May, just 0.3 points higher than the Bank of England’s target. This is the lowest it has been since Rishi Sunak became prime minister in 2022, when it stood at 10.1 per cent.
It is perhaps in light of this economic good fortune that Mr Sunak has called a snap general election, announcing in May that it will place on July 4.
