Two Teenage Rebels

IN THE NOT-TOO-DISTANT PAST, I CAN REMEMBER bumping into Scott Linford at the 2012 SCMC April Spring Gathering. He turned up on a recently-restored 1995 Honda SS50. As we stood admiring his lovely blue SS50, Scott confessed he was a Sports Moped fanatic. Given I was chatting with a 19-year-old, I remember being very impressed with the detail and quality finish of Scott’s impressive SS50 restoration.

Fast-forward to May 2023, when a now 30-year-old Scott appeared at the popular Rynd Classic Car and Motorcycle Gathering in Fife – but this time on a rather dashing metallic green SS50 – and once again I was drooling. I was just congratulating him on his Honda’s blue to green colour change when Scott revealed that he’d recently restored not one, but two SS50s back-to-back! I was confused, or perhaps I drew a sceptical look, as before I could mutter another word, Scott was already swiping images of SS50 number two on his mobile.

This latest resto was a white and red Sports SS50 and a rare example of the sixteener’s ‘teen-rebel’ moped. I was gob-smacked, for it looked quite incredible. As one does, I gently bent Scott’s ear to allow me to photograph it, along with his earlier SS for a future feature in . And given both mopeds have ‘teen rebel’ status, not any location would do, so I sold Scott the idea of snapping both his creations at the renowned Graffiti Alley – an outdoor billboard gallery that exhibits the finest graffiti artists in Dundee. Scott beamed with both thumbs in SS50’s unique history and ultimate restoration.
