A Reversed Route to Victory

In the summer of 1968, we packed up our family station wagon to make our annual trek from the Chicago suburbs to the Smallbone's Maplewood Resort in Sister Lakes, Mich. Though it was a drive of only two and a half hours, our cries of “Are we there yet?” were still heard.

The resort was owned by George Smallbone. His last name always made me laugh as he was a former college football star who stood about 7 feet
