Yellow is seen in religious imagery, symbolising gold in the Roman Catholic faith, highlighting the holiness of saints in devotional paintings, and is worn by Hindu gods. In China, the Yellow Emperor was the first to take the throne, and the colour was worn only by the Imperial Family or laid down as resplendent rugs for distinguished guests.
