The release of Alone In The Dark, at the end of 1992, was a big success for main designer Frédérick Raynal and his small team at Infogrames. It’s no surprise then that the publisher wanted a “more of the same” sequel as soon as possible, but the exhausted developers had no interest in it. So they packed their bags, moved to Delphine Software International and opened the doors of Adeline Software.
A name that, incidentally, the four founders, Frédérick Raynal, Didier Chanfray, Laurent Salmeron and Yaël Barroz, had nothing to do with, as Frédérick told us, “Paul de Senneville was the chairman of the Delphine group. He had two daughters, Adeline and Delphine, who were the namesakes of Delphine Software and Adeline Software. The name of the company was the only thing that was not negotiable.” According to Yaël, de Senneville’s offer was simply too tempting to refuse, “It was a kind of offer that only comes along once in a professional life. We chose our team and our premises. We equipped everyone with the best computers and we had carte blanche to create! At the time, my salary more than tripled.”
