When Shimano released its 105 Di2 12-speed groupset in 2022, the feeling was that here, at last, was electronic shifting for the masses. Historically, 105 has been Shimano’s mid-level groupset, straddling the gap between its top-tier and budget offerings, and this fully electronic version came in well over $1,000 cheaper than its big brother, Ultegra Di2. However, at a price of $2,700-plus it’s still by no means cheap, so has the groupset of the people gone too fancy? In my opinion, absolutely not.
