o you remember the day you found out pickles are actually cucumbers? “You mean to tell me pickles, the highlight of a Maccas cheeseburger, are actually cucumbers – the most filler, one-note part of my mum’s salads?!” (This was in the ’90s when I had never tasted a Lebanese or Continental cucumber). These are good sweet-and-salty pickles. The “bread and butter” thing is mildly confusing (turns out, the person who first preserved cucumbers like this traded them for pantry staples – like bread and butter – at her local grocer in the 1920s when her family fell on tough times). They are crinkle-cut pickles – which
