Farewell to a true countryman

FRANK HOUGHTON BROWN, who has died recently aged 59 following a long illness, enjoyed an idyllic and semiferal childhood growing up on the family farm in rural Northamptonshire surrounded by the celebrated Bicester hunt coverts of Warden Hill, Redhill and Jack's Barn.

Early sporting adventures with his brother, cur dogs, bows and arrows were superseded by the college beagles after Frank was sent to Stowe School, which his colleagues referred to as Stowe Country Club for Boys.
