YOU may be surprised to learn that the main ingredient in that delicious treat we call chocolate actually grows on trees. And no, it doesn’t count as one of your five daily helpings of fruit and vegetables!

There are many steps which have been developed over thousands of years to give us the chocolate we all know and love. Let’s find out how chocolate is made.

FROM THE TROPICS TO THE FACTORIES

Chocolate begins as seeds of the (pronounced: CUH-COW) tree (), which is an evergreen tree native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. of the world, especially in western Africa and Asia. In 2022, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in western Africa was the largest exporter of cacao beans.
