Sting operation

WE encourage nettles in our garden (‘A true test of nettle’, May 22). They host caterpillars that turn into beautiful butterflies and, in the spring, they provide leaves for picking that we blend into colourful Victoria sponge cakes (pictured), which we serve to our visitors for afternoon tea on the lawn. ON two occasions, in June 2010 and 2014, we had the pleasure of visiting). To those you showed on your pages and their contemporaries, I can only say to them the same words I said then: thank you. It hardly seems enough, but it’s all I have.
