WHILE the native elm tree almost entirely vanished from our landscapes in the 1970s following an outbreak of Dutch elm disease, volunteers at the Kent & East Sussex Railway have played a part in reintroducing this species after planting 10 new examples resistant to the infection along the 10½-mile line.
