SUNSHINE BRINGS SOARAWAY SUCCESS TO WEST SOMERSET GALA

Crowds flocked to West Somerset during the May bank holiday weekend as the region’s heritage railway again proved beyond doubt that it is a major asset to the local economy.

The attendance at the Spring Steam Spectacular was 50% up on the corresponding event last year.

There were five visiting locomotives, with Locomotive Services Group’s LNER-designed B1 4-6-0 No. 61306 Mayflower making its first-ever visit to the Minehead branch.

WR Modified Hall 4-6-0 No. 6990 arrived from the Great Central Railway, from Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway.
