C&I: Our readers certainly enjoyed Hidalgo and Appaloosa, so they’re doubtless looking forward to your latest western, The Dead Don’t Hurt, which has you doing triple duty as writer, director, and star. Are you especially fond of the genre?
I grew up with them. And I liked them. I’m old enough that when I was a little kid and first started going to movies — I was 4 or something — it was sort of the end of the golden age of And — sort of a modern western, but really great. As an adult, I’ve continued to watch westerns. And basically, my goal with was to make something that was respectful of the codes of the classic western.
