Vision Pro: Facing the Future

We don’t often get a chance to peer into tomorrow, but spending half an hour for a free demo of Vision Pro at an Apple store is one of those opportunities not to be missed. My first encounter with the virtual reality headset that Apple refers to as “a spatial computer” was a jaw-dropping experience that had me reaching for my wallet—almost.

Since last year when Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, announced this groundbreaking product, I’ve been intrigued by the prospect of revisiting a type of personal technology that’s been kicking around for 30 years but has never broken into the mainstream. Once Vision Pro went on sale in February, I was able to book a demo at my closest Apple store through the company’s website.

The Apple Store at Queens Center was weirdly empty the morning I arrived. I had no trouble moving the demo to 11 from 11:30. Maybe this flexibility was due to my appointment coinciding with the only day in three years that the city’s public schools were closed on account of snow.
