The Doctor’s latest adventure starts as a fond parody of the / school of costume drama. We know this because someone – usually ’s Ruby – says, “Ooh, this is ” every 30 seconds. But just as it seems has settled for 50 minutes of well-intentioned but unspectacular homage, writers Kate Herron and Briony Redman do something unexpected – giving the Doctor a love interest in dashing anti-hero Rogue (, who should know his way around a ballroom, having played George III in the Broadway run).
