Any relief for those suffering from severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a plus and would be gratefully received, but this is again the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff (“Busting a gut”, June 1).
As an ulcerative colitis (UC) sufferer since 1989 (at age 27), I have followed with great interest the latest research into the cause and possible treatments, particularly Dr Shawn Baker (Revero Clinic, US), and Dr Robert Cywes (South Africa), who, with others, have put thousands of patients into full remission from UC and Crohn’s disease through a strict elimination diet.
This is recommended for 60-90 days initially and consists of meat, salt and water. Following this, eggs, butter and clean dairy can be added, depending on tolerance, and later, if patients choose, they can reintroduce selected vegetables and fruits (seasonal only). This way of eating removes the overdose of pesticides, herbicides, glyphosate and other environmental toxins and gives our body a chance to restore itself.
The side effects of drugs and steroids in particular are horrendous and within two years I was out of options, resulting in a full ileostomy. Had I known of this dietary choice it would
