Juneteenth 2024: What is it and how will the date be marked?

Juneteenth ceremonies have kicked off in the United States more than a week before the official celebration begins.

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris marked the countdown to this year’s Juneteenth with a concert at the White House.

During the evening, which included performances from Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Doug E. Fresh, Mr Biden also reiterated his commitment to the rights of Americans.
