If I had any tip for other people starting out running it’s this: don’t be scared. No one’s watching you. I think a lot of people lack confidence because they don’t know what to do, or they need to go with someone else, or someone might laugh at them. But actually, everyone’s so self-obsessed and locked into what they’re doing, they won’t look at you. If I was to see someone running, I wouldn’t know they’d just started. So just get out there and do it. The only way to learn is by giving it a go. The worst thing that can happen is that you might actually really like it and come back for more! So many people wish they’d started sooner. So, my other tip would be: why wait? Try it now.
The one thing I recommend you get is a good pair of running shoes. If you run and they’re not comfortable, they’re not right. Lots of sports shops now do gait analysis for free – you get on the treadmill and they’ll advise you which trainers to get. And]. But I have to hide them from my husband because he nicks them! So you need a sports bra, trainers and socks – and off you go!
