film invites comparisons with and the movies. It’s not as good as those, but still remarkable. Like , it’s about a little girl lost in a scary-funny magic world. Like the movies, it has mind-bogglingly, exhaustingly dense visuals. Much of the film has the texture of trembling liquid, keeping you marvelling at what you’re seeing, though the story sometimes palls.
