Before 2013, distilling was illegal in Hamilton County, where Chattanooga is located. The founders of Chattanooga Whiskey launched a campaign called Vote Whiskey to rally the support of the local community and persuade lawmakers to amend the legislation. The campaign was successful, and Chattanooga Whiskey became the first legal distillery in the city since Prohibition.
