Summertime Spinnerbaits

THERE WAS A day not so long ago when an angler wouldn’t go fishing without a big spinnerbait.

It didn’t matter whether he was fishing over grass, through brush or on a ledge or weedy dropoff — the spinnerbait was tied to at least one of his rods.

But today? Once the water temp climbs and fish have moved away from the bank, the spinnerbait gets pushed out of the rotation.

That is a mistake, say Bassmaster Elite Series pros Drew Benton, Keith Combs and Mark Menendez.

“It’s a forgotten tool,” says Menendez. “If I only had one bait for the rest of my life, it would be the spinnerbait. It catches big bass and is so versatile.”
