BESTING the BRITISH

The last time Scotland’s Royal Troon hosted The Open, in 2016, Jason Day was the No.1 player in the world and in the middle of a dominant stretch, during which he had won seven big events and a major title over the course of a year.

After a heartbreakingly close call while hunting his first major victory at St Andrews, Day found an extra gear and went on that dominant run from July 2015 to June 2016. His close call at the Old Course was fascinating, though. We all remember the putt on the 72nd hole, which he left painstakingly short, before looking up to the heavens in disbelief. The then-28-year-old would go on to win his very next start in Canada and then his first major title the next month at the PGA Championship.
