Best rose gardens

1 Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire

As home to the National Collection of Pre-1900 Shrub Roses, you’ll find more than 1,000 roses blooming in Mottisfont’s walled garden in early summer. Created by renowned ‘Constance Spry’ and ‘Comte de Chambord’. You’ll find climbing, rambling and hedging roses adorning arbours and high brick walls, while borders are skilfully planted to complement the display. Unlike modern varieties, these more ‘old-fashioned’ roses flower just once a year. Look out for special evening openings in June.
