A different coronation
As I have stated before, I am always on the lookout for the unusual, and nothing makes me happier to think on the day the coronation of King George VI stamp was issued, one collector thought, I know, I will do something different, writes Brian Austin.
So, what can I tell you about this cover? To start with, the Coronation stamp was issued on 13 May 1937, the day after the actual coronation, with this cover being postmarked on the same day. So was HM Hitchcock’s original intention to try and get it postmarked on 12 May only to discover that the post office was closed on Coronation Day.
I am going to say that it was, otherwise it would have one of the Coronation stamps on it. I think he (I am going to assume he is a man) had been through his stamp collection to find the Queen Victoria, two George V and King Edward VIII definitives to start the cover off, and then three
