How I began tracing my family tree

I am Lucy May, my age is 32 and I have Downs Syndrome. I live in supported living. For the last year I have been working non-stop on a family tree project. I was first inspired to start my family tree by a programme I saw on TV called “Who Do You Think You Are?”. This programme made me decide to do my own family tree as I have always wanted to know more about my family.

First before starting my family tree I asked my Mum for her details like date of birth, place of birth and her full name. With this information I was able to start my mum’s side of the family tree. to begin my family tree and I was able to find more family just through simple family details. Then to find out more about family members who served in the wars I used a website called ‘Forces War Records’. Through this I was able to find a lot of paperwork and documents relating to family members who served in the wars.
