AND SO TO FRANCE

Not so much curveballs for me this month, as a learning curve. I’ve had my nose in the newspapers for quite long enough, and it’s high time I got stuck into the French records. Bear with me, though, as these are unchartered waters…

First, the good news: there are records out there online. I was worried France might be a bit like Italy, where you need to know exactly where your ancestors were buried or baptised. All I have to go on with Joseph, my Italian 3x great-grand-father, is a magnificently vague ‘Milan’, which makes researching my Riboldi roots nigh on impossible.

But for France, there looks to be an impressive array of stuff at Ancestry, so let’s crack on. All I’m keen to do at this stage is map out as much of my 2x great-aunt’s immediate adoptive family as
