Comedy: ABBOTT ELEMENTARY

Quinta Brunson has become the new powerhouse of American comedy – not only has her public schoolit has been nominated for 15 primetime Emmys (winning four) and won three Golden Globes and a Peabody Award. At this year’s Emmys, Brunson was also the first black woman in more than 40 years to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Brunson plays a relentlessly cheerful second-grade teacher who, with a quirky bunch of colleagues, try to do their best in a crumbling, predominantly black, Philadelphia school. Season three from today; a fourth is on its way.
