HARVESTING LOVE

Georgie Cavanagh always loved the country, but had no plans to move there – until she met Narromine farmer Curtis Adams.

“I’m from Melbourne, and moved to Sydney about eight years ago,” says Georgie Cavanagh, 37. “I work in PR and run Carlotta + Gee, the linen brand I co-founded with a friend. Eighteen months ago I met my partner Curtis, 37, through mutual friends. He runs his family farm outside Narromine, in the NSW Central West, and we visited each other often. It soon felt as if we’d been together forever, so when I became pregnant last year, it was an easy decision to move to the farm. Our daughter, Amelia, was born in February and she’s gorgeous.

“We live in what was Curtis’s grandparents’ house, and then Curt’s bachelor pad, so we’ve spent the last year renovating. His family know this life is very different for me, so they’ve made the move easy. They help me with projects, like getting chickens, or putting in a vegetable garden.

“Organisation is key here. I combine appointments and errands in town into one day, from coffee with a friend to a supermarket trip. There’s also no-one to collect the bins here, so once a month we take them in a horse float to the tip. And now I know weather is everything
