ny passage planning must take the tides into account. The flood runs west and the ebb east. Tidal range is limited (around 1m), but currents can easily reach 10kts. Tide against wind or swell can create a very uncomfortable/unsafe seastate in a very short time with breaking waves. An intuitive app called Rák gives) is nicknamed the ‘Red Scare Book’ and highlights areas to avoid at certain states of the tide. When crossing, making landfall on Suðeroy avoids the strong tides.
