My eyes opened and rested on my husband Zac, then 31, sat on my hospital bed.

He was cradling a tiny baby. Our baby.

Little Maximus, who we'd welcomed just hours before, in September 2023.

I felt strange, like I was in a dream. Awake but not.

My brain felt muddled.

I mumbled some nonsense, couldn't make anybody understand what I was trying to say.

‘Just rest, love. You're exhausted,’ my mum, Tanya, then 61, soothed.

I couldn't deny that.

After a smooth pregnancy, 36 hours of labour had certainly taken it out of me.

I was allowed home with Maximus three days
