“I COULDN’T skip – my feet were everywhere. I had to really work at it to get any good,” recalls Commonwealth 115lbs champion Emma Dolan of her early days in the gym.
For the Norwich-born, Newark-based fighter, much has changed since she first nagged her dad to let her tag along with her older brother to the gym. “I was just jealous,” she laughs. “I just wanted to be in on whatever he was doing. But I remember just sitting there being too shy to join in with this room full of boys. Eventually, the trainer coaxed me into hitting the pads, and I immediately thought, ‘This is great; I like this!’”
Dolan has come a long way since those first reticent prods as an
