Leisure Painter

Welcome

Welcome to the first of our summer issues, where the emphasis is on loosening up, having fun and enjoying the process of drawing and painting, both indoors and out. Our cover artist this month is experienced watercolourist, Brian Smith, whoseconfident work. The tips, techniques and ideas he’s discussed over the past months I know have inspired many of you to look differently at the subjects you paint – and find the perfect activity when sitting in a waiting room, standing in line at your local supermarket, or simply visiting a new place for the first time. Be discreet and carry a small sketchbook and pen if you don’t want to be bothered by passers-by, and celebrate the joy of looking at, and capturing your own personal response to the world around you.
