UNITED WE SHALL STAND

EVEN in a country used to political high drama the past few weeks have been quite something.

The ANC, robbed of its outright majority after 30 years in power, had to come up with a plan. As it deliberated, questions swirled.

Would a “Doomsday coalition” be formed between the ANC and its splinter parties, the EFF and MK? Would it enter into a coalition with only the DA, its main opponent and a party reviled by some in the ANC’s rank and file? Exactly what did the future hold for us?

Well, now we know. The ANC has chosen to go the route of a government of national unity (GNU) and a whole new era has begun.
