THE African National Congress would have done well had it heeded the advice that Mahatma Gandhi gave the Indian National Congress after India’s independence.
India’s Congress Party had been formed in 1885 and fought against British colonialism, with Gandhiji as its face. Soon after Independence, Gandhi called for the Congress Party to be disbanded.
He said it had served its
