AROUND THE GARDEN

STEP BY STEP Pot on young perennials

Keep young perennial plants growing strongly by repotting them now. They will soon fill their new pots and be ready to plant into the garden by the end of the month. Larger plants will make more impact in a border and be robust enough to survive damage from slugs and snails.

1 CHOOSE a pot 2cm wider and deeper than the current one. Place one inside the other to check the new pot isn’t too big.

2 TAKE the plant out of its pot and hold it in the centre of the new pot while you fill with peat-free potting compost. Firm in gently.

WATER well, then place in a sheltered spot to grow
