At the recent Wings and Wheels event in Thames on 27 January, I heard the inimitable burble of a vintage Mercury flat-head V8, and turned to see Dan and Donna Thompson’s stunning 1951 P1 Allard roadster meandering down the row of cars to its place on the show field. For an American expat, it was a sweet sound from long ago and music to my ears.
